Batwoman Season 2 Episode 2 is in the bag and again the show continues to impress. This episode gave us plenty of character development, lots of action and some teases as to what we can look forward to in future episodes.

This weeks show sees the people of Gotham up in arms at the fact that the Batwoman hasn’t been seen for a while, so much so that they all agree to put on a rally to show their support. We later find out that the rally was a ploy put on by Alice who sets loose poisonous bats (which all have been injected with the same poison that killed Mary’s mum) in an attempt to infect the crowd. Ryan, who dons the Batwoman suit for the second time has to act quickly to navigate the poisonous bats in to an empty bus which she then blows up. The antidote (Mary’s blood) is then given to Hamilton Dynamics to distribute to those injured by the Bat attacks. We later find out that all of this was an attempt by Alice to goad Safiyah in to a face to face confrontation, but Safiyah whom we are still yet to see sends Tatiana in her place to confront Alice.

There is probably a lot to take in from that overview of the episode but I promise you it you if you have been keeping up with the show it should all largely make sense. In fact the only part which may be slightly confusing is also one of the parts that I am most looking forward to in the show and that is the ultimate arrival of Safiyah. We haven’t actually gotten to see her yet but her name alone seems to invoke fear in to Alice and for someone who has been such a nasty and vicious character as Alice to be scared of her really excites me to see what Safiyah can bring.

This week I also I especially enjoyed the way that we got a clear focus on Ryan’s background with some of the familiar characters on the show. Given her criminal record she is all too familiar with the Crows and in particular Sophie which opens up some great opportunities for the show to explore at a later date. She also revealed that her own mother was murdered by the Wonderland gang which gives her reason for wanting to get her hands on Alice. And if that wasn’t enough, we get a flashback to her being attacked and being saved by Batwoman.

Its a tough job to replace the lead actor/actress in your series but I feel as though they have done just about a good a job as they could have done with having Ryan Wilde replace Kate Kane. She certainly brings some freshness to the show and her ongoing relationship with key characters such as Mary Hamilton and Luke Fox is a real highlight of the show for me. In this episode we got to see Luke question Wilde’s motives to why she should be Batwoman but her backstory and support from Mary quickly squashed any hesitation that Luke had.

All in all so far if these first two episodes are anything to go by, Batwoman season 2 is on the path to far exceed expectations and present us with a follow up season that eclipses its previous one. I am really excited to see the direction of this season and for them to continue to build up Ryan Wilde as a true badass chick!
